"I now know how important the gifts are, and if you let them fill you, you will become closer to God.”
“I learned to be more open, to take risks and to have courage.”
“I understand how the Holy Spirit works in my life, and I am willing to share with anyone who asks.”
These are a few of the comments girls made about this year’s The Spirit Alive program, one of the eight faith-building programs sponsored by the Office of Catholic Scouting. The Spirit Alive program, open to all girls in high school, is designed to help girls grow in their awareness of the Holy Spirit. They learn how the Holy Spirit has manifested itself in the history of the people of God and the ways in which the Holy Spirit enlivens their own spirituality. The program’s emphasis is on prayer, study of Scripture and documents of Vatican II, and service to others.
After the girls complete the program, they attend an evening of faith sharing called “Sharing the Spirit”, and they receive their awards on Presentation Sunday at the Cathedral Basilica. As one girl remarked about The Spirit Alive program, “It’s a great way to refresh your faith and remember how much you love being so close to God.”
