Are you ready for an Incredible Adventures, Daring Escapes, Powerful Testimonies, Heroci monents as the Early Christians?

Come Experience .......The Sword and the Keys!

Hello Leaders,

Thanks so much for your interest in attending the 2010 Catholic Adventure Week.   It will be a fantastic and memorable week and we couldn’t be more delighted to have you and your Scouts experience it.

Attached is the adult leaders guide to review.   We hope it will answer many of your questions.  You will also get a hard copy of this manual in the mail soon.

There will be a leaders orientation meeting that will coincide with the regular summer camp orientation happening on Saturday morning of the Spring Conclave, April 17th.   We will have our own room in the basement of the Emerson Center at Beaumont and the meeting will start at 9:30 a.m.

Please attend or send a Troop representative to get more of the details of the adventure week.   In your leaders packet, you will find individual Scout and leader forms that we would like to get back at our meeting on April 17th.    If no one can attend this meeting from your Troop, please let me know and send the forms to the CCS office as listed on the form.

We will review the week’s program and finalize any loose ends.   One area in particular will be on merit badge help and reviewing the counselors from your Troop  that could instruct other outdoor focused merit badges beyond the ones that the Swift staff can do.   The badges available are listed on the youth and leader forms.

Again, we look forward to seeing you and your Scouts this summer for a great week of faith, fun, high adventure, and advancement.

On behalf of the Catholic Committee on Scouting,

 Thanks!

Our goal in providing this week for our Catholic scouts is to give them an experience of living their faith, growing in their faith, and loving their faith within the scouting movement and especially out in the wonders of God’s creation.

While at Swift for CAW, scouts will be camping with their individual troops, under their particular adult leadership.  Since a number of our participants are attending this camp in addition to their troop’s summer camp, there will be cases where a scout from a troop does not have a leader present at camp.  A “provisional troop” will be made for one of the camp sites, with leadership being provided by members of the Catholic Committee on Scouting, BSA.  In the past this system has worked very well, and scouts seem to mix easily with other scouts, without the tension that can be experienced at a normal summer camp.

While at CAW, scouts will be exposed to the entire High Adventure program offered at Swift.  Intertwined with the outstanding program offered by the Swift staff, there will be opportunities for prayer, religious instruction, and reflection.

The National Catholic Committee on Scouting® is pleased to announce its high adventure leadership program for older Catholic Boy Scouts and Venture Crew members at Philmont Scout Ranch. The 2009 Saint George Trek begins on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 in Albuquerque, New Mexico where the participants meet get to know one another, train, have fun and pray. Then it's off to Philmont Scout Ranch where they will hike the Sangre de Cristo Range of the Rocky Mountains. While hiking, they will experience a program that is designed to encourage the integration of morality, values, spirituality, faith and scripture in their lives as Christian leaders. Before returning home on August 5, 2009, they will be asked to commit themselves to bring what they have learned home to their respective dioceses where they can become effective peer leaders and role models for their fellow scouts.
